EMF Pollution – Electrosmog – Electropollution

It’s an environmental pollution generated by artificially-polarized electromagnetic
fields and waves emmited by man-made technologies.

Electromagnetic Pollution is an intense environmental toxin surrounding us daily and everywhere we go. It is that growing ocean of artificially-polarized electromagnetic fields and waves generated by telecommunications and all man-made technologies we use.

It is non-ionizing radiation produced by telecommunications or any electrical device, whether it is powered by alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). This type of radiation is usually called artificial radiation because it comes from man-made sources, and its characteristics and oscillation patterns are not found in radiation produced by natural sources.

Alternating current, for example, is one in which the magnitude and direction vary cyclically; the most commonly used form of oscillation for alternating current is the sinusoidal oscillation, to such an extent that, when speaking of alternating current, it is understood that it refers to sinusoidal alternating current.

However, in certain applications, other forms of periodic oscillation such as triangular or rectangular are used. Audio and radio signals transmitted by electrical wiring are also examples of alternating current. Usually, this is done to transmit and retrieve encoded (or modulated) information within the alternating current signal. This modulation is the action of inserting information in the waves.

This use of waves as information carriers leads to a harmful effect by an alteration of charges and disoriented spins in those fundamental particles that propagate in the waves. In other words, there are indeterminate changes in the spins of these particles.

This results in nanoscale electromagnetic disturbances that add up causing alterations and biological effects in the human body,  leading to permanent health problems in some cases. It affects plants and animals in  a similar way. These effects make up the so-called “electromagnetic pollution” or electrosmog.

There are many sources of electrosmog, ranging from high-frequency microwave radiation -used mainly in the telecommunications industry- to low frequency electric and magnetic fields, generated by electrical appliances, wiring, and high voltage lines

In 2001, The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified the exposure to static and extremely low frequency (ELF) electric and magnetic fields as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B). Later in 2011, radiofrequency electromagnetic fields were added to that same group.

Electrosmog may be the cause behind several negative effects not only on biological systems, but on electronic devices as well, as it carries disturbances and interferences. Some of the problems that are generated in different electrical/electronic systems are:

High energy consumption (inefficient usage).
Damage to electronic circuits.
Shortening the device's lifespan.
Higher levels of interference affecting telecommunications signals.
